The Staines-upon-Thames BID Business Plan 2017-2022  will be hand delivered to businesses on Monday and Tuesday next week.  A second copy will accompany ballot papers on 1st November.  Businesses have 28 days to vote and return ballot papers.  Pending a successful ballot, Staines-upon-Thames achieves Business Improvement District (BID) status and secures £1.6 million of investment to deliver new initiatives under the following five themes:

  • A well known town – marketing, promotion and PR
  • An eventful town – high quality events to boost trade and footfall
  • A safer town day and night
  • An attractive town – street and parking improvements
  • A productive town – business support and a collective business voice

If you missed the launch of the Staines-upon-Thames BID on Wednesday evening you can speak to members of the BID Steering Group over the next few weeks between 10-11am in the new Nostrano Lounge at 55 High Street, Staines town centre on the following days:

  • Monday 24th October
  • Thursday 27th October
  • Tuesday 1st November
  • Friday 4th November
  • Tuesday 8th November

Support the Staines-upon-Thames BID


 BID, StainesThe Slug and Lettuce played host to the officail launch of the Staines-upon-Thames Business Improvement District proposal on Wednesday the 19th of November. From the 1st-29th of November businesses within Staines-upon-Thames will be able to vote on whether Staines-upon-Thames will join the current 230 Business Improvement Districts across the UK.

Surrey Economic Prospects – September 2016

  • Spelthorne Borough Council has bought the BP business centre in Sunbury for £360 million.
  •  The 43.3 acre Legal and General site in Kingswood has been put on the market for offers in excess of £70 million.
  • Unemployment, measured by the number of Job Seeker Allowance (JSA) claimants increased slightly in August to 4,100. The unemployment rate remained at 0.6%.
  •  Surrey County Council is preparing a new local plan for waste, to manage the waste generated by homes and businesses sustainably.

Make Spelthorne part of Zone 6 – September 2016 Update


Make Spelthorne part of Zone 6, in the London fare zones system, managed by Transport for London.

While the tenders for the franchise renewal to run our rail lines are being evaluated, campaign team members have been actively seeking new signatures for our petition.

We have been engaging with local, corporate businesses to promote the cause and receiving feedback, from people that work in the area.

A general consensus is that most people took convoluted travel routes to and from work , to avoid the high cost of travel.

The Optical Shop in Staines was established for 25 years and served the community with excellence in eye care.

We have been asked by many companies whether we could introduce a scheme to enable their employees to receive a discount for spectacles or sunglasses from The Optical Shop.

Lord Digby Jones “- “The UK in a Post-Brexit World”


On Wednesday the 21st of September Shepperton Rotary Club hosted Lord Digby Jones to talk about the United Kingdoms exit from the European Union following the decision to leave by the British public on the 23rd of June. In his humorous yet informative manner Lord Digby entertained the audience for over two hours on his thoughts on a “Post-Brexit World” while also hosting a Q and A from the audience.

Spelthorne Business Forum Annual River Boat Cruise:Review

riverboatOn Tuesday the 14th of September the Spelthorne Business Forum hosted its annual riverboat cruise. The event was very well attended with over 60 local businessmen and women all enjoying a business breakfast networking cruise along the River Thames.  

The cruise also hosted a number of guest speakers with a number of topics and initiatives discussed such as: 

  • The Spelthorne Business Forum online business directory, events, and volunteering opportunities. 
  • The Heathrow Business Summit 
  • The Armed Forces Covenant
  • Initiatives at Spelthorne Borough Council.

Vote YES! Back the Staines-Upon-Thames BID

BID, StainesThe Staines-upon-Thames Business Improvement District (BID) development is going from strength to strength with the appointment of a Chairman and Vice Chairman.

Steven Harvey, Managing Director of Oasis Estate Agents in Clarence Street has been appointed as BID Chairman with Stephen Gould, founder of The Optical Shop in the Elmsleigh Centre as Vice Chairman.
