Spelthorne and Slough Borough Councils Back Heathrow in letter to The Times

The joint letter, from Councillor Ian Harvey, Leader of Spelthorne Borough Council and Councillor Rob Anderson, Leader of Slough Borough Council, is in response to reports that some council are preparing to sure over an extra Heathrow runway, and aim to show that no all councils local to the airport oppose its expansion.

Heathrow Pods “Take Off” from Terminal 5- Airport’s Ultra Pod technology joins GATEway driverless car project in Greenwich

Heathrow will be working in collaboration with Westfield Sportscars, and Oxbotica, to develop new iconic automated pods for public trials this summer. Using entirely British engineering and software capabilities, the three companies will develop pods capable of operating fully autonomously and safely on the streets of London, as part of the GATEway driverless car project in Greenwich.

The three companies, who have joined the GATEway project as consortium members, will be working together to develop the existing Ultra Pods currently in service at Heathrow Airport.

Images unveiled today show how the communities around Heathrow could benefit from a £105m investment in green spaces, including transformational improvements to *Colne Valley Regional Park that would reduce flood risk, protect biodiversity and create public places for people to enjoy.

Baxalta UK choose Staines-upon-Thames for new HQ

20 kingston roadBiopharmaceutical company Baxalta has chosen to set its UK Headquarters in Staines-upon-Thames, with plans to house around 100 employees.

The $6 billion global biotech was launched on July 1st after separating from Baxter International in a move designed to accelerate innovation and optimise R & D productivity.

Baxalta, which has a strong foothold in the haematology and immunology arenas, is planning to launch 20 new products across the globe by 2020.

Commenting on its new HQ, Nicole Farmer, Managing Director of Baxalta UK, said the firm will work with “all stakeholders- patients, healthcare professionals and policymakers- to ensure access and improve standards of care to medicines for patients” across the country.

LIM Signs ServiceNow for Staines-upon-Thames

strataLa Salle Investment Management has signed IT Operations management group ServiceNow for 60,000 sq. ft. offices as the first tenant at Strata its speculative development in Staines.

ServiceNow is set to move from the 18,000 sq. ft. offices it occupies at the nearby Future House in Egham, Surrey and is understood to be paying circa £34 per sq. ft.

It will take just under 60,000 sq. ft. across the ground and first floors. There is understood to be strong interest in the final floor remaining, the 29,000 sq. ft. second floor.

LIM and development manager Bell Hammer speculatively developed Strata offering 89,893 sq. ft. of offices and 29,000 sq. ft. floorplates in the centre of Staines close to the river and the railway station.

LIM is advised by Knight Frank and Montagu Evans; Colliers International advise ServiceNow.

Perhaps otherwise best known as Ali G’s birthplace, Staines now has another claim to fame: The commuter belt town in Surrey has had the biggest jump in new businesses created per capita last year.

Some 43 more new businesses were created per 10,000 population compared to the year before, according to a study from accountancy group UHY Hacker Young. This is over three times higher than the UK average of 14.

Spelthorne Borough Council and Funding Circle today announced the launch of the Local Business Lending Partnership, a pioneering new scheme, to stimulate local economic growth and employment through improved access to business finance.

As part of the scheme, the Council will lend up to £300,000 directly to businesses based in Spelthorne using Funding Circle, the UK’s leading online marketplace for small business loans.

The Council will join thousands of British people already lending their money to small and medium sized businesses across the country. The government-backed British Business Bank and 11 other councils across the country (including Newcastle County Council, Camden Council and Nottingham County Council) have also signed up to lend money to businesses through Funding Circle.
